Ebbs And Flows, Paul Rho‘s debut exhibition in New York curated by Yuyue (Eunice) Chen, has been received so well that if you missed out on experiencing it, YOU REALLY DID MISS OUT!
REVIEW IN IMPULSE
Zara Roy from IMPULSE did experience this amazing exhibition and says;
“When you first step into the installation, you are greeted by soundscapes of crashing waves and the intermittent cooing of 12 ceramic bells designed by Rho, attached to jars styled after the traditional ceramic moon jars of the Joseon Dynasty. Prints of the Korean coastline on Mullberry Hanji paper are cast around each of the jars, grafting new skin onto ancient flesh. A traditional black ‘hanbok’ – translating simply as “Korean clothes” – looms large on the wall hung in an embrace over the gallery, like a scarecrow keeping a watchful eye over the cool, quiet land.”

REVIEW IN CULTBYTES
Anna Ting Möller from CultbYtes writes:
“Rho invites different senses to commingle as one enters into the center of the immersive installation. There is an analogy between the artist’s processes and the passing of cycles. The work stretches across space and entwines tempo, images and repeated sentiments. The layering of the soundscape flirts with the melodramatic. Yet Rho poetically manages to ask how to live and remain through an arc of time, through absences and estrangements.”
