Writing Submissions

Passing Notes is an exercise in collaboration; a melding of unique new voices bouncing off of each other in order to interpret the echoes. Passing Notes is seeking art-related writing for our upcoming Issue 4.

GRANT

The Laundromat Project‘s Bed-Stuy Create & Connect Fund is a hyperlocal micro-grant program that seeds and supports the creative ideas or civic actions of artists, cultural practitioners, community organizers, activists, and neighbors whose proposals aim to enrich community life in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The Fund provides $1,000 grants toward each funded project.

FELLOWSHIP

The Processing Foundation Fellowship, themed “Sustaining Community: Expansion & Access,” seeks to support innovative projects from artists, designers, activists, educators, engineers, researchers, coders, collectives, and many more, who are working at the intersection of creative technology, art, and open-source software. The program includes a $10,000 stipend.

MICRO GRANT

Sista Creatives Rising (SCR) will award seven women of color and femme-expressing creatives of color in any medium, a $200 micro-grant.

COMMISSION

NYC DOT Art is commissioning temporary site-responsive art for Beautifying the Park Row Connection to Chinatown to reinforce the connection between Lower Manhattan and Chinatown and reflect the rich cultural identity of the area. Selected artists will receive up to $20,000 towards direct project costs.

GRANT

Café Royal Cultural Foundation NYC will award a grant to NYC artists in Performance, Visual Arts, Literature, and Music. Artists are eligible to receive up to $10,000 in funding.

Commision

The Arts Center of the Capital Region’s Troy Public Art program seeks to facilitate the installation of new art vinyl wraps on 20 traffic control cabinets (we are calling them “electric boxes”) in downtown Troy, New York to visually enhance the streetscape and pedestrian experience. Commissions for digital artwork will be awarded by the Arts Center for installation in the summer 2024.

EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITY

SaveArtSpace invites artists of all ages and talents to submit their artwork to be placed on billboard ad space in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during the Republican National Convention. The overarching theme of the exhibit is the “preservation of democracy.” There is a $10 donation per image submission.

The Public Theater is hosting cultural critic Jose Solís’ BIPOC Critics Lab in the 2024-25 season. After successfully hosting the 2023-2024 cohort, The Public is honored to continue Solís’ commitment to creating an educational space for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) writers in the realm of cultural criticism.

WRITERS GRANT

The 2024 Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant supports writing about contemporary art and aims to ensure that critical writing remains a valued mode of engaging with the visual arts. Open to any art historian, artist, critic, curator, journalist, or writer in an outside field who is strongly engaged with contemporary visual arts.

FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS

NewFest seeks narrative, documentary, experimental, and animated films (both features and shorts) inclusive of–and of interest to–the LGBTQ+ community. Festival submission fees for Black filmmakers with LGBTQ+ stories centering Black characters and perspectives will be waived.
